Recovered Military Ordnance at 18200 block of Hereford Lane

PRESS RELEASE

Nature of Incident:  Recovered military ordnance

Date:   November 6, 2019

Location: 18200 Block of Hereford Lane

At about 4:40 pm, the Nassau Bay Police Department received a call from a citizen who had located a possible “bomb”.  Officers arrived and were shown what appeared to be an old piece of military ordnance. The object was found inside the wall of a home while it was being remodeled.

The Nassau Bay Fire Department was then called to the scene for precautionary measures.  NBPD and NBFD made contact with the Bay Area Regional Bomb Squad which then responded to the scene. The immediate area where the ordnance was located was evacuated.  No surrounding homes or roadways required evacuation or closings.

The bomb squad safely recovered the ordnance, secured it in a containment vessel and transported it to a safe location for disposal.

It is unknown how the ordnance ended up in the wall or who may have been responsible.

The scene was cleared at about 6:45 pm.
