Economic Development Corporation
Purpose & Responsibilities of the Corporation
On April 22, 1998 the City filed Articles of Incorporation for a new Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The corporation is a nonprofit specifically governed by Section 4B of the Texas Development Corporation Act of 1979. Its purpose is to encourage the retention of business enterprises within the City of Nassau Bay.

The corporation promotes and develops new and expanded business enterprises in the City in order to promote and encourage the economic growth of the City and the full employment, welfare, and prosperity of its citizens. The corporation has seven directors appointed by the City Council for two-year terms of office. No person is appointed more than four consecutive times. A director may be removed by the City Council at any time without cause. Each director must be a resident of the City of Nassau Bay.

Urban Planning and Advisory Committee
The corporation was instrumental in the formation of an Urban Planning and Advisory Committee to begin concept planning for the redevelopment of Nassau Bay’s commercial areas. A key product were the Development Principles to be applied to future project concepts that came to the City from the development community.
