Dangerous flooding can occur with little warning. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides official maps delineating both special hazard areas and high-risk zones within a community. Property owners, insurance agents and lenders can use these flood maps to determine flood insurance requirements and policy costs. Because flood risks change over time, FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) work with communities, such as Nassau Bay, to identify and map flood risk on an ongoing basis.
Nassau Bay residents and businesses are encouraged to familiarize themselves with flood hazard information, using the FEMA Flood Map Service Center. This website will locate your official flood map, access a range of other flood hazard products and provide tools for understanding flood risk. Valuable information regarding stream and rain gauges from Clear Creek and Clear Lake is available from the Harris County Flood Warning System.
Additional information is provided by the Harris County Flood Control District utilizing a Flood Education Mapping Tool, which provides information regarding the boundaries of mapped floodplains in Harris County relative to residences, business and other structures.
