[ARCHIVED] Drive-Through Prescription Drug Take Back

Drug Take BackOn Saturday, April 27th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Nassau Bay Police Department will be partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to give the public an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring any pills for disposal to the parking lot of Nassau Bay City Hall at 1800 Space Park Drive, Nassau Bay, Texas. Officers will be in the parking lot to collect and dispose of the drugs, and you will not need to leave your vehicle. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps, and will ONLY accept pills or patches on April 27th. The service is free and anonymous – no questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
