[ARCHIVED] Public Works to conduct Sanitary Sewer system Smoke Testing - Starting March 1

Smoke Testing Bal Harbour 03-01-2022

The City of Nassau Bay will begin sanitary sewer smoke testing beginning Tuesday, March 1 and continuing for approximately two to three weeks.

Smoke Testing is a common test method used to identify sections of the sanitary sewer collection system that have defects. Residents may notice a dense, white, non-toxic/stainless smoke in the testing area.

To prevent smoke from entering your home, run water faucets for a few seconds in unused sinks, tubs and drains to fill fixture traps. This should be done prior to testing.

“During this testing period, please contact Public Works if smoke appears in your home,” Public Works Director Paul Lopez said. “If you notice smoke in your home, do not be alarmed – open doors and windows to allow the smoke to clear. While the smoke will not damage or stain your walls or furniture, it is important that you reach out to the department so we can discuss next steps.”

Those residents in the first area of testing – in and around Bal Harbour – should be receiving a Swift911 message today. Please see map for further information on impacted homes/areas (updated 3/1/22).

For further information please call Public Works at 281-333-4211.
